NCMA FIRE STATON2ND YEAR / 2ND PLACE, NCMA COMPETITON / BELLEFONTE, PA
Based on the material qualities of mid-century modern furniture, this gallery and library for a furniture collector explores the material reality of experiencing a building as 'object' shaped by motion pathways and vignette isolation. The monolithic concrete forms all spaces housed within, encouraging visitors to explore the collection and experience the spaces generated by the building 'object'.
In a small historical city in which spontaneous fire has destroyed numerous buildings once vital to the urban fabric, it is necessary to not only provide an operating fire protection service but also communal spaces available to the public. This project refolds that fabric into spaces usable by both firefighters and the general public, generating a place for both public recreation and service to happen simultaneously.
